Carex chordorhiza L. f. 대암사초

Scientific Name

Carex chordorhiza L. f. 대암사초

Subgenus classification

: Vignea.

Habitats

Occurs in Gangwon, and it lives in high altitude (approximately 1000m or higher).

Stem

Scattered growth, with basal sheath color light brown, and length about 20 cm.

Leaves

Leaves shorter than the stem, have glabrous surfaces, width about 1-1.5 mm.

Inflorescence

The number of spikes two or more, rarely one (by misinterpretation). Spike shapes all same (no distinct differentiation between sexual characteristics), with some spikes bisexual. Spike sexuality androgynous (staminate flowers above the pistillate in the same spike). Entire inflorescence length about 0.5-0.7 cm, spikes arranged densely. Terminal spike sexuality gynecandrous (by misinterpretation) or androgynous. Lateral spike sexuality androgynous, and erect to ascend. Terminal spike length about 0.5-0.7 cm. Number of spikes per node one (one spike in one bract).

Bract

Lowermost bract shape scale-like.

Glume

Staminate glume awn short (awn less than one-third of the total length) or long (awn more than one-third of the total length). Pistillate glume awn short (awn less than one-third of the total length) or long (awn more than one-third of the total length). Pistillate glume color dark brown to blackish brown.

Perigynium

Transverse section lenticular to biconvex. Perigynium shape obovate (the broadest part near the apex), suborbicular (width/length > 0.5, nearly circular) or elliptical to narrow elliptical (the broadest part in the center), and densely flowered. Perigynium glabrous. Beak short (beak less than one-third of the total length), with truncate mouth. Length 2.5-3 mm.

Achene

Appendage absent, no constrictions.
